Registration Process
How long will it take the Teachers Council to complete my registration?
The standard turnaround is 4-6 weeks for routine applications. Staff at the Council can be dealing with up to 600-700 applications per week.
How will I know the Council has received my application?
An automatic letter of acknowledgement is sent to those applying for the first time, and for renewal applications. If you haven't received such a response, then contact the Council and find out if they have receved it.
Why has my application taken longer to response?
It maybe that you didn't complete all the sections of the form correctly. The advice from the Council is to work through the registration formk using the accompanying guide, which is available from the Council website
If in the past 10 years, you have lived outside of NZ for periods of 12 months or more, an overseas police vet is required.
If your practising certificate expires while waiting for that clearnce and your application is with the Council, then your current Principal or senior teacher needs to apply for an extension for you to be able to continue beyond the 20 half-day period
